Research Services

A testimonial from English professor David Nee

All members of the Harvard community can take advantage of the following research services:

Consultations: Faculty and students can make a one-on-one appointment with a research librarian to discuss anything from a specific research project, resources for a course, or even for an exploratory jaunt through a new discipline's literature. To schedule a consultation, please either refer to the list of department liaisons, or submit a request here. Harvard affiliates are also welcome to request online consultations via Skype or Zoom.

Drop-in: Reference desks are staffed at Widener from 9am-9pm Monday-Thursday, 9am-7pm Fridays, 9am-5pm Saturdays, and noon-8pm Sundays; the Reference Desk at Lamont is staffed from noon to 5pm Monday-Friday. You can also check here for the hours of the specialized libraries.

Chat: The new 'Ask Us' chat service is staffed by trained librarians. Text 617-682-9043 from your smartphone, or access web-based chat here to get immediate help with all kinds of questions. We can help you navigate Harvard Library's resources and services, answer questions, troubleshoot e-resources - anything!

Email Reference: More complicated reference questions which require some extra time for sleuthing can be sent in to Ask a Librarian, where they'll be forwarded to the appropriate specialist who will follow up with you directly. You can also browse an archive of answered questions and maybe stumble across something really excellent.
